I first encountered this creamy stick of magic through my son’s tutor, Mrs. P. They had used it to practice their letter formation. It was thick and the reddest red you could imagine. I had to try it out of course.
OH. MY. GOSH.
The vibrant color was as thick as a lipstick but creamy and smooth like skating on ice. If that wasn’t remarkable enough, within seconds it was perfectly dry and CLEAN. A swipe of your finger left nothing smeared or misplaced. It was love at first stroke.
Even though it lay forgotten in the art cupboard for years, I would still think of it from time to time. It had a hold on me. Recently, I felt a call to bring an art therapy experience to a sweet friend. I brought this fellow with me and I excitedly encouraged her to try it out. A felt a little giddy – and insane. Being a fellow artist herself, she appreciated this red friend.
As the weeks went by, I caught myself daydreaming about it. I shared it with another friend soon after during another art session with dessert that she had brought over. She could feel the excitement as well of the broad colorful strokes of this stick.
Over text the next week, I confided that I couldn’t stop thinking about this tempura paint stick. Should I buy a set for myself?! I mean, I’m a grown woman and these are clearly for preschoolers. 15 texts later. I did it. I ordered the “Original Kwik Stix 24 color set” on Amazon. They were delivered within a couple of days – unmelted!! in our Arizona 115-degree heat.
I quickly tested them out on white paper and on black. The metallics have a subtle but pretty sheen. The neons were slightly more translucent. The rest of the colors were vivid and bold. They did not disappoint.
Not sure what I’m going to do with them. I frankly just love how they FEEL when gliding across the paper. It’s like valium I would imagine… they just make me feel calm and happy!
If you have littles, they’ll LOVE THEM so much – and maybe, they’ll let you play with them too!
